SUMMARY:Legs for Literacy
DESCRIPTION:Legs for Literacy \nNow in its 25th year\, Legs for Literacy has contributed nearly $1\,000\,000 to local charities\, including $53\,000 being donated this year alone to four organizations making a direct impact in the region. \nThe event takes place every October and offers something for all ages and abilities\, including a 5K\, 10K\, half marathon\, full marathon\, and a 1K kids run. Beyond the races themselves\, the event is powered by an incredible network of volunteers. Each year\, 450 to 500 volunteers contribute more than 10\,000 hours to ensure a safe\, welcoming\, and successful race weekend. From community members to RCMP and security personnel\, these volunteers are the backbone of the event. \nMany volunteers return year after year\, drawn by the energy\, purpose\, and strong sense of community that defines Legs for Literacy. \nMission:Legs for Literacy enhances the community through running and walking events that raise money and awareness for key partners who promote literacy in Southeastern New Brunswick. \nSteve Kikkert \nOne of our long term volunteers is Steve Kikkert who is our bike lead. As the race takes place through the streets and trails of Moncton\, Riverview and Dieppe it logistically is an immense amount of work. Steve has consistently recruited the bike team which included approx 20-25 bikers and leads them up to event day and on the day with practice rides so every member of his team knows their role to prevent any runners going off course and also ensure that everyone gets back safely. Many of our volunteers are repeat volunteers that know of Steve’s professionalism and work ethic as well of his happy personality. \n \nKraig Colpitts \nKraig is one of the team that has worked with us for a long time\, not only ensuring that the course is properly measured with his team of Colin McQuade and Aaron Sellars but also volunteers on race day with Steve’s bike team. Here he is featured with the yellow helmet ensuring last minute details are all up to date.
