Moncton Community Residences Inc.

For the past several years, our compassionate, professional, and dedicated employees have taken it upon themselves to start a food drive to help the members they support. This year we are reaching out to you, our community members, to consider our clients this holiday season when you open your hearts to help those in need.

Over the last few years, the 80 people we support in our Supported Independent Living Program (SILP) have suffered immensely due to increasing rental costs and skyrocketing food prices. Their risk of homelessness has never been greater.

Financial assistance for people with intellectual and mental disabilities is $886 per month. Only 50% of the 80 individuals in SILP live in affordable housing units. This means the other 50% not only live in less-than-ideal locations, with almost no funds left over for everyday needs; heat, electricity, clothing, food, etc. now they simply cannot afford a roof over their head. Currently it is impossible for them to access safe housing options that allows them to maintain a standard of independent living in their homes. The system is failing them of their basic human needs.

System issues like this, are not only inhumane, but they also place even more pressure on shelters and other community resources who actively support those struggling with homelessness. While community resources are integral part of their livelihood, and they are extremely thankful for their support, their limits cannot meet the needs.

As a not-for-profit agency, 100% of your monetary donations and food items go directly to help the most vulnerable individuals in the Moncton area. Monetary donations and non-perishable food items can be dropped off to our head office on 11 Brandon St, between 9a – 3pm Mon- Fri, and e-transfer, along with a separate email including your address can be sent to mcri@mcrinc.net. Donation receipts will be provided on monetary donations.

We look forward to an increase and changes to disability supports predicted in the new year.
