Last time, we introduced you to ENSEMBLE’s Needle Distribution Service. Today, we’d like to introduce you to the newest member of our frontline services:
Overdose Prevention Site (OPS)
Our OPS has been operational since November 2021, and it’s the first and only Overdose Prevention Site in New Brunswick. Here, individuals can inject substances under the watchful care of trained staff (most of our staff are Emergency Medical Responders)
A few things to note:
– Individuals must bring their own substances. ENSEMBLE does not sell or provide drugs.
– Smoking is not permitted inside the OPS as we do not have the proper inhalation setup.
– Individuals are not permitted to sell substances while using the OPS.
The OPS is a safe, sterile, and welcoming space for individuals to inject substances in the presence of trained staff.
The purpose of an Overdose Prevention Site is to aid in cases of accidental overdoses and reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
In the fiscal year 2023-2024, a total of 110 overdoses occurred at our OPS. All overdoses were successfully reversed by the OPS staff, resulting in zero deaths.
Our dedicated team is committed to providing a safe environment and essential support to those in need, reflecting our ongoing mission to protect and enhance community health.
