Habitat for Humanity | Habitat pour l’humanité
DESCRIPTION
Habitat ReStores sell quality, new and gently used furniture, appliances, home décor items and building materials to the public at great prices. ReStore proceeds help cover Habitat’s administrative costs to support local building projects that provide more families with safe, decent and affordable housing. Volunteers at our ReStores assist with a number of different tasks involving the preparation materials for sale, customer service, sorting & organizing inventory, and housekeeping. Below are brief job descriptions of each role volunteers may be asked to fill.
Warehouse Volunteer
Those working in the warehouse are generally responsible for the primary intake of items. This is an ideal position for those that like working with their hands and don’t mind getting a little dirty. It’s a position that does require some level of physical fitness, but we have machinery and operators for the heavy items. Alongside store employees, the volunteers sort the items into the stockroom which will be responsible for preparing the items for sale. Larger items are typically kept inside the warehouse portion of the stockroom, whereas smaller items are brought to the inventory processing room where it will be assessed and brought to the showroom for sale. The everyday tasks include, but are not limited to:
Unloading/loading the truck
Unpacking/packing boxes
Sweeping and maintaining general cleanliness of the warehouse
Organizing larger merchandise items
Receiving donations
Loading large purchases into customer vehicle
