The WILD Outside program in Moncton is looking for adults aged 18+ to mentor and lead youth in outdoor activities and conservation service projects alongside staff at the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Time commitment: Minimum of 2 events per month

Who we are:

The Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) is a national not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to ensuring an appreciation of our natural world and a lasting legacy of healthy wildlife and habitat. By spreading knowledge of human impacts on the environment, developing and delivering educational programs, conducting research, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, and advocating for effective wildlife policy and regulation, CWF strives for a future in which Canada’s wildlife is conserved for generations to come.

Position overview:

WILD Outside is a free national conservation-based leadership program that engages youth aged 15-18 in outdoor and teambuilding activities, as well as conservation service projects in their local community. WILD Outside Outdoor Leadership Volunteers support the program in a supervisory capacity, acting as role models for youth participants, assisting with event logistics, and helping to facilitate programming. Core duties:

  • Assist Youth Leadership Specialists in facilitating programming
  • Assist Youth Leadership Specialists with equipment, set-up, and take-down on event days
  • Supervise and engage youth participants during programming
  • Create a welcoming and fun atmosphere for all youth participants
  • Provide appropriate leadership and role modeling to youth participants
  • Lead activities, games, or icebreakers while Youth Leadership Specialists are momentarily preoccupied
  • Act as a First Aider at events (if qualified; CWF staff are also certified in First Aid)
  • Lead events or webinars/lessons about a topic you are knowledgeable or passionate about (if you’re up for the challenge!)
  • Help promote the WILD Outside program at booths, career fairs, and community events

Desired qualifications:

  • Passion for conservation, the outdoors, or working with youth
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Available for a minimum of 2 events per month. Events are typically on evenings and weekends.
  • First Aid certification is an asset
  • Aged 18 or older
  • Must find own transportation to and from events

Screening process:

All volunteers must successfully complete the following process:

  1. 20-minute phone interview
  2. Completion of registration forms
  3. Reference checks
  4. Vulnerable Sector Check (reimbursed by CWF)
