RESPITE CARE SERVICES FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS / WEEKEND RELIEF SERVICES
Families with children who have special needs often need various services to improve their child’s and family’s health, well-being, and quality of life. The Respite Care Services program is a wonderful initiative supported by caring community volunteers that provides hours of support to families with children who have developmental disabilities. Services are free of charge and is specifically designed for families with one or more children aged 0 to 18 years who have special needs. This self-referral program offers families relief for periods ranging from 2 to 48 hours each month, along with support to help them navigate other services available in the community.
Volunteers must complete a mandatory screening process to ensure that they are well-qualified to mentor children with special challenges. Parents, volunteers, and the Respite Program Director collaborate to create successful matches.
WEEKEND RELIEF SERVICES
Respite Care Services also offers Weekend Relief Services for children and adult children with special needs still living in their parental home and are clients of Social Development. The Respite Care Program Director coordinates weekend relief in collaboration with the program Family Supports for Children with Disabilities with Social Development Department.
