Description of volunteer work
The New Brunswick Refugee Foundation (NBRF) is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is currently accepting nominations for two (2) openings on its Board. The NBRF is a bilingual, charitable organization that raises and maintains a fund to support the New Brunswick Refugee Clinic, which provides free legal services to individuals making refugee claims or other humanitarian-based immigration applications in New Brunswick who cannot afford a private lawyer.

NBRF Board members provide leadership in fulfilling the organization’s fundraising and stewardship responsibilities. Members also help strengthen relationships with community partners, supporters, and donors.

Skills and Requirements
The NBRF is seeking candidates for the following two positions:

Position #1: Board Secretary
Responsible for ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping of Board proceedings, preparing and distributing meeting agendas and minutes, maintaining corporate records and filings, managing Board correspondence, and ensuring compliance with governance requirements.

  • Must reside in New Brunswick
  • Experience in corporate governance, minute-taking, or administrative management
  • Relevant education or experience in governance, legal administration, or related field
  • Non-profit or charitable experience considered an asset
  • Bilingualism considered an asset

Position #2: Investment Officer
Responsible for overseeing the management and stewardship of the NBRF’s investment portfolio, developing investment strategies, monitoring performance, ensuring compliance with legal and fiduciary requirements, and reporting to the Board.

  • Must reside in New Brunswick
  • Experience in investment management, portfolio management, or financial planning
  • Relevant education or professional designation (e.g., CFA, CIM, CFP) or equivalent experience
  • Non-profit or charitable experience considered an asset
  • Bilingualism considered an asset

Time Commitment

  • 2–4 hours per quarter
  • One evening meeting per quarter, plus preparation time
  • Two-year commitment
  • Start date: May 2026

Location & Accessibility

  • Meetings held in Moncton (virtual or in-person)
