Obligations of Registered CharitiesTuesday, May 10 (9am to 10:30am)

The focus of this presentation is to highlight the responsibilities that accompany registered status such as devotion of resources to charitable purposes and activities, other acceptable activities such as fundraising and related business,  receipting for gifts, the filing of the T3010 Annual Information Return, and maintaining adequate books.

Financial Reporting for Registered Charities Wednesday, May 11 (9am to 10:30am)

This presentation focuses on the required financial reporting that accompanies registered charitable status.  Topics include an overview of the regulatory environment for registered charities, key details for financial statements, completion of the T3010 Information Return including expense allocation, and common T3010 reporting errors.

Developing a Fundraising Plan Thursday, May 11 (9am to 10:30am)

This presentation is tailored for organizations looking to launch a formal fundraising program.  Key fundamentals covered include identifying the objectives of a fundraising plan, evaluating organizational capacity, categorising target markets, assessing various fundraising options, and fundraising best practices.

Registering as a CharityTuesday, May 16 (9am to 10:00am)

The focus of this presentation is to provide guidance and direction for organizations and groups considering charitable registration.  Topics include the differences between a registered charity and a non-profit organization, the advantages of registration, alternatives to registration, factors that can affect registration, administrative obligations associated with charitable status, and an overview of the charity application process.

Registered Charities Working with NPOs Wednesday, May 17 (9am to 10:00am)

This presentation provides clarity on the ways a registered charity can work with a non-profit organization that does not have charitable status.  Topics include an overview of relevant CRA policy, the funding environment for the charity/NPO sector, risk considerations, and options for collaboration.

Housing and Registered Charities Thursday, May 18 (9am to 10:00am)

The presentation focuses on the provision of housing by a registered charity.  Topics include the differences between a registered charity and a non-profit organization, the three scenarios that a registered charity can provide housing  (in the relief poverty, for persons with disabilities, and for the aged), opportunities for registered charities to generate other rental income, and strategies for organizations to deliver housing for both those in poverty and those seeking below average market rates.
