Description of volunteer work

We are looking for passionate people who will help us put our learners on the fast track to success.

As a volunteer, you will provide free and confidential one-to-one tutoring services to adults 16+ years of age and older who are working to improve their literacy or numeracy skills or who are learning English. Whether their goal is to excel on a professional basis, read to their grandchildren, get their driver’s licence, pass an exam, or just improve their quality of life, our organization is happy to help.

Skills

Requirements: READ Moncton tutors are, first and foremost, patient and kind. We are not looking for expert tutors with years of experience and neither are our learners. Becoming a volunteer tutor and helping your learner meet their goals is about building their confidence through relationship and consistency.

We provide training and continuous support to our tutors as they walk through the process. Tutors and learners will work at third-party locations (e.g., libraries, coffee shops) and typically meet once or twice a week.

Tutors must agree to maintain confidentiality regarding their learner and will undergo a criminal record check and complete the intake process to ensure safety and compatibility. We ask for a one-year commitment to working with your learner, but exceptions can be made depending on your situation, so please reach out if you have concerns.
